Is there peace in limbo? Are there sacrifices in air? What’s security in suspension? When do we plummet, filled to capacity?
In Silently Violent, Haynes traverses the realm of limbo where friction finds its place in the spaces in-between. This intangible dance becomes a metaphor for black queer existence/survival, a teetering between an intergenerational archive of extinguished personhood and an earnest attempt to forge an entirely new sense of self. Haynes seeks to contribute to the visual narratives and mythologies that challenges viewers to engage in introspective dialogues about change, transformation, and resilience dissimilar to the predominantly archived spectacle of violence on bodies like their own. Through the embodiment of these fiber consumed pieces, each suspended in varying states of tension they describe the indescribable; an attempt to recall the assessments one makes in the face of their own history and evolution.
