HINDSIGHT delves into the present, past, and future in an attempt to explore identity, trauma, and ambiguous loss through an absurd, dream-like imitation. Haynes research is an experimental take on how memory and trauma, either consciously or unconsciously, inform future decisions and behavior through storytelling and images. The installed multimedia format invites the viewers to become lucid; to physically join the perspective of another and experience the overwhelming cacophony of clouded and dizzying visual fragments and exposed inner monologues that act as the obstruction to Haynes’ everyday life.

HINDSIGHT is Haynes’ Undergraduate Honors thesis that took place over two self-directed quarters under the UC Davis faculty advising of Azin Seraj and Darrin Martin. All videos and images were collected and edited through the process of exploration and improvisation, portions of the images and sound are not owned by the artist. This thesis could not be completed without assistance from the following: Sasha Alexander, Ariana Boostani, Samantha Dela Rosa, Lorlelei Lee-Haynes, Izac Parra, Maya Tirumurti, and the members of the Basement Gallery Team.

These pieces were on display from May 20th and 21st in the Basement Gallery alongside pieces from Semiotics of a Black [redacted] and works from Ivan Padilla.
